Before the Veyron's record-setting run, the Shelby Super Car Ultimate Aero sports coupe, which used a 1287-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 6.4-liter V-8, blitzed its way to 256.23 mph in 2007. The American firm hopes to reclaim the title with a new model, which is currently wrapped in a veil of secrecy.

Although SSC reportedly showed the car to prospective customers at last weekend's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California, it has yet to officially unveil the car beyond a teaser image placed on the company's website. We do note a rounded nose, which may be the work of famed Jason Castriota, who's penned several of our favorite supercar concepts.



Autocar reports production of the new SSC car will be limited to only 12 examples, and each will carry a price tag in the neighborhood of $800,000-$900,000. That isn't cheap, but considering a Veyron Super Sports commands $2.4 million, it may be a relative bargain.
